Giving web users a unique interactive experience of the FIFA World Cup stadia across South Africa through the fusion of HD video footage and cutting edge mapping technology, Avimap (Aerial Video Integrated Mapping) has been co-developed by UK based companies, Skyworks and Earthware respectively.

A unique aerial view of each stadium is complemented with information about the matches and teams playing at the venues.
Commenting on the launch of Avimap, Neil Osmond, Managing Director of Earthware, said:
“By creating a seamless interactive experience online, Avimap is a flag bearer for the art of the possible, as it’s the first time that HD aerial footage and web based mapping technology have been linked in the cloud environment. It really paves the way for future applications which blend video and mapping and we’re delighted to use the World Cup to showcase this technology.”
Visitors to TheWorldCupMap.com will also be able to view another Avimap experience, ‘The Country behind the Cup’, which is an aerial journey across South Africa. This is based on a Skyworks HD factual documentary made for TV.
Colin Mills, Director of Skyworks, commented:
“Our objective with Avimap was to create an engaging combination of journey, documentary and map that enables the user to interact in a completely new way. Presenting documentary footage like this will allow viewers to explore the ‘Rainbow Nation’ from a unique perspective.”
Having collaborated successfully on the introduction of Avimap, Skyworks and Earthware are developing further ways to apply these techniques in web applications with a particular focus on travel and tourism.
