June 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Author Howard Bryant lived through the Civil Rights era and his new book brings awareness to how people of color were treated in the mid-20th century.  Although there have been some significant strides made over the last fifty or sixty years, there is still a long way to go.

Things were a lot different in Cahill, Georgia in the 1940s and 1950s than they are today. Conditions were terrible for the Negro. Still, there were some whites who were willing to stand up and become advocates for the oppressed. Phillip Graham, for instance, was one of those people. When he discovers that the town’s sheriff and its deputies are members of the Ku Klux Klan, he is shocked. Asked to join, he adamantly refuses; and although his refusal means trouble, he tells himself that there is no way he will ever be associated with an organization that promotes acts of violence, particularly against Negroes. When Phillip hires a Negro for his business, he angers the town’s sheriff and tensions escalate and harassment of local Negro families increases. Phillip knows something must be done. But just how far will he go to stop the reign of terror?
