Hollister Creative wins 4 national awards for museum and foundation teaching materials

Hollister Creative educational pieces win four national awards for excellence in the 2010 Distinguished Achievement Awards competition of the Association of Educational Publishers.

June 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Hollister Creative education materials have won four national awards for excellence in the 2010 Distinguished Achievement Awards competition of the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). Winning top honors were teaching materials created by Hollister for museums and for non-profit foundations promoting literacy and cultural awareness.

The awards were announced at the annual AEP banquet June 8 in Washington, D.C. Hollister Creative won three of the four first-place awards given in the Sponsored Publication category, and was a finalist for the fourth award in the category.

The winning Hollister Creative materials for 2010 are:
• “Iyare! Splendor and Tension in Benin’s Palace Theatre,” Sponsored Publication, Grades 9-12, a Teacher’s Guide created for the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology for a special exhibit on the African kingdom of Benin.
• “The Accidental Mummies of Guanajuato,” Sponsored Publication, Grades 6-8, a student learning guide created for the Detroit Science Center and the Michigan K.I.D.S. education foundation for a special exhibit on mummies created by natural conditions in a crypt in Guanajuato, Mexico.
• “Yak’s Corner,” Sponsored Publication, Grades K-5, a weekly newspaper created for The Skillman Foundation and Michigan K.I.D.S. to promote literacy in Detroit Public Schools.
• “News Breakers: African American Voices in the Media,” Commemorative Edition, Grades 6-8, a Black History Month program created for Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services and Michigan K.I.D.S that included a student learning guide, teacher’s guide and classroom poster.

Materials produced by Hollister Creative also were finalists in two other categories:
“The Skillman Foundation Guide to Community Services” was a finalist in the Sponsored Publication category for Adult audiences, and “The Accidental Mummies of Guanajuato” was also a finalist in the category for Design, Whole Publication, Grades 6-8.

In the last 12 years, Hollister materials have been honored 56 times as finalists or gold medal winners in the AEP competition, which draws entries from the largest publishers of educational materials in the United States. Hollister’s award-winning designers were art director Heidi Karl and graphic designers Georgette Klotz and Reneé Guie. The winning writers were Martha Michaela Hutchman Brown, Rachel Vigoda, Don Harrison and Peter Landry. Landry was also editor for all four projects.
