The Triangle Coalition for Science and Technology Education is now offering individual memberships to current K-12 educators in an effort to incorporate the teachers’ perspective in its call to improve science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.
Current K-12 teachers and administrators can become Triangle Coalition members with an annual, tax-deductible contribution of $50. Included with membership is a savings of 20% off of registration at Triangle Coalition’s annual conference, a subscription to Triangle Coalition’s Electronic Bulletin (TCEB), a weekly newsletter full of valuable resources and news about STEM education activities and programs, as well as a subscription to the Legislative News, a blog that is frequently updated with timely reports on STEM education policy. Educator members will also have opportunities to collaborate and network with one another and with Triangle Coalition’s organizational members.
Currently, Triangle Coalition’s membership base is comprised of a diverse group of organizations representing business and industry, STEM associations and societies, national education organizations, state and regional alliances and educational institutions, and also includes partnerships with several government agencies. The addition of educators to the group is crucial to bringing a more balanced and rounded perspective to Triangle Coalition’s voice in STEM education.
“In our twenty five year history, we have been able to represent the voice of education, government, and business at the education table here in Washington, DC,” said Triangle Coalition Executive Director, Vance Ablott, “but in this time of rapid change we want to make sure that we include the distinct voices of classroom educators in the discussion of education policy. We are excited to welcome teachers to the Triangle Coalition membership and look forward to the inclusion of their voice as we seek to build a strong and innovative future through STEM education.”
For the last 20 years, Triangle Coalition has managed the Department of Energy’s Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program, which selects exemplary K-12 STEM educators to serve as fellows in government agencies where they provide a real-world classroom perspective on STEM education policy and projects. By offering individual memberships to K-12 educators, Triangle Coalition seeks to amplify the voice of the teacher in STEM education policy. All Albert Einstein Fellows will be awarded honorary life-time memberships with the Triangle Coalition.
