June 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Prince William will be the active Patron of the campaign. This project aims to protect 2,012 playing fields across the UK by 2012, the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  The 2,012 permanently protected playing fields will be named the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Fields.
This initiative has particular pertinence given the other landmark occasion scheduled for 2012 – the London Olympics.
Since 1992, over 6,000 playing fields have been built on in the UK alone, illustrating the severity of the problem. Access to outdoor space is vital for communities. It can help improve social cohesion and reduce levels of obesity and anti-social behaviour, which is why this ambitious challenge will be the largest ever programme to protect and improve recreational space in the UK.
For local communities to become part of the campaign, FIT plans to challenge the public to create their own legacy by voting for a local playing field which they wish to protect. Votes can be cast at: www.Qe2Fields.com in the later part of 2011.
Mark Knight, director, Broadgate Mainland, who has joined the FIT Appeal Board, said: “Protecting playing fields from development is a vital task because  once they have been built on they are lost to public use for ever. Giving our time free of charge to help promote this project is immensely satisfying and will help support a healthy future for thousands of people in the country. We plan to help Fields in Trust in any way we can.”
Alison Moore Gwyn, Chief Executive, Fields in Trust, said: “Gaining public and commercial sponsors’ awareness of the QEII Fields Challenge is a crucial part of the programme.  Charities like ourselves are under increasing financial pressure and so the offer of help from the highly creative and experienced team at Broadgate Mainland is fantastic.”
The account will be managed by Mark Knight, Sarah Evans-Toyne and Neema Patel at Broadgate Mainland.
