With 26 messages, the users of the QuakeSOS were updated every couple of minutes on the potential Tsunami treat after a huge M 7.5 earthquake struck in the region of the Nicobar Islands (India / Thailand / Indonesia).

Whether used in California, Mexico, Japan or Chile, this iPhone application can be a useful instrument to save lives. If caught in an earthquake, users of this app can send messages via the QuakeSOS web site telling friends and family if they are safe or in need of help along with their GPS rescue coordinates.
Also those who are fortunate enough to live away from the epicenter of any tremor can use the app to tell QuakeSOS that they also felt the ground shaking which could provide valuable information in determining the size and effect of an earthquake.
QuakeSOS is free and is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It can be downloaded from Apple's App Store. It is currently ranking well in the top 50 Social Networking applications for earthquake prone countries.
