More Women Can Manage Work and Personal Life, According to Survey

According to survey, more employed women can balance their personal lives and their work without any major issues.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun 13, 2010 -
A recent study revealed that most women in the US can balance work and personal life. The survey, conducted by Kenexa Research Institute (KRI) revealed that 61% of employed women can balance their personal lives and their work without any major issues. An important factor contributing to this trend has been revealed to be influences at the workplace.

The survey clarified what it meant by an effective balance. An individual who is said to effectively balance work and personal life would be someone who can attain goals set as part of the profession, move ahead in her career objectives, devote attention to the needs of the family or personal needs, and work in an organization that is supportive of employees making efforts to balance work and personal life.

The influences at the workplace that contributed to women effectively managing work and personal life have been listed by the survey. They include:

•   Reasonable and manageable levels of stress
•   Enjoyable nature of work
•   Perception of a fruitful future at the organization
•   Employee contribution valued by the organization
•   Freedom of participation offered to employees in the decision making process that affects their work

While there were plenty of influences that helped female employees manage work and life better, these factors -- that were found in organizations encouraging the work-personal life balancing efforts of the employees – seemed to inculcate great values in employees, including:

•   A positive feeling about the organization where they work or a sense of pride in it
•   Eagerness to suggest the organization to friends or others as a favorable workplace
•   Satisfaction regarding the job
•   Willingness to stay in the company, contributed by a feeling of loyalty to it

These values cultivated in women employees benefited the organizations where they worked sincerely. The highest percentage of satisfied female employees who could balance work and the obligations of personal life were found in the following fields:

•   The hi-tech sector reported the highest percentage of women able to balance work and personal life at 69%
•   The financial services sector came next at 66%
•   The healthcare sector reported 63%
•   Government organizations and the manufacturing sector reported 61% and 57% respectively

The retail sector at 53% reported the lowest percentage of female employees who could effectively mange work and personal or family life.

These encouraging trends and figures suggest that whatever be the nature and amount of stress put on working women in the 21st century, the majority of them are able to take it in their stride, at least in the United States.
