June 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Author Maria Faint today announced the release of her novel The Red Note, A Bully Story: the Struggle to Fit In, published by Outskirts Press.  The dramatic tale takes readers along the journey of two young girls, past their emotional upheaval from abusive bullying, and through to their final discovery of happiness with themselves.  It is an inspirational story all too pertinent for today’s world.

The hurtful, unkind and constant teasing known as bullying which has recently begun to surface in our high schools has been much publicized recently.  It is an emotional danger to teenagers already having a hard enough time arriving at a comfortable identity for themselves.  As the Anti-Bullying Centre at Trinity College, Dublin, has made known, “individuals who are persistently subject to abusive behavior are at risk of stress related illness which can sometimes lead to suicide.”

First time novelist Maria Faint has captured the atmosphere of preying bullies in this tale of shy, young Francesca who undergoes taunting and teasing by her new classmates after she transfers high schools from Georgia to Southern California.  She is called “ugly,” is teased about her weight, and is laughed at openly because of the way she dresses.

Teaming up with another young female victim of this juvenile abuse, Francesca and her new friend raise enough money for the plastic surgery they desperately feel they need to transform themselves from ugly ducklings into beautiful bombshells.  They aim at least to have the last laugh by using their new beauty to get back at those who hurt them.

Finally, though, they discover how to achieve true friendship with others, and through that, their own inner happiness and eventually true love, as well.

The Red Note is an inspiring and empowering story and one perfectly timely for this day and age.

The book is available on-line in paperback through Amazon and Barnes and Noble and at www.outskirtspress.com/buybooks for a maximum trade discount in quantities of ten or more.
