What you should know about Medicare diabetes supplies.

Medicare will cover the cost of some of your medical supplies, only if you have diabetes. If you have a medical need for the supplies Medicare will pay for a limited amount as long as you have a prescription from the doctor that is treating you.

June 13, 2010 - PRLog -- In order for Medicare to pay for the supplies you need, you are going to have make sure that you get your doctor to order the medical supplies for you. You are not going to be able to order any supplies without the consent of your doctor so you have to make sure to have a valid prescription from your physician or treating doctor.

“…There are some things that Medicare covers and things they do not. Some of the most common are blood glucose test strips, a blood glucose monitor, lancet device and the lancets as well, glucose control solution that helps check for and keep your test strips accurate and the monitors. There could be limits as to how much you can get and how often you can get the supplies. It really varies with what kind of Medicare coverage you have. The only way that Medicare will cover the cost of your insulin is if you have to use a pump. That also goes for insulin that has to be injected with a syringe. You can get the supplies such as syringes, needles, alcohol, swabs, and gauze. Medicare will also cover other medications as long as they are covered by your drug plan and ordered by your physician…”

A couple ways to make sure your supplies are covered by your Medicare plan there are a few things that you need to do. Only order supplies when you need then and accept what you have ordered. You need to make sure you request the supplies because Medicare will not pay for supplies sent directly from a supplier. And you must make sure that the supplies you order are ordered directly from pharmacies that are Medicare enrolled and the suppliers from which you order from.

“…Medicare is a great way to get free diabetic supplies. In order to make sure you get the supplies you need when you need them, make sure to follow all guidelines and stipulations. Check with Medicare before you decide to go through a supplier as to what you can do and what can be done for you...”
