“The work that lies in front of the next mayor will be a monumental undertaking,”
During the media conference, Hosea Chanchez, star of Black Entertainment Television’s “The Game” introduced Lowe and encouraged residents to vote and support Lowe’s vision. Well-known gospel group Walt Whitman & the Soul Children of Chicago continued to inspire the attendees by singing the National Anthem.
Lowe is a Gary native who graduated from Lew Wallace High School in 1983. He later served in the U.S. Marine Corps where he completed basic training as honor man of his platoon. He was promoted to a position in the intelligence field and held a top-secret security clearance. He won several awards for his performance and was crossed trained as a linguist.
After the military, Lowe returned to Gary to assist his family with their struggling business. Over the next 20 years, Lowe grew the business, C&M Liquors, Inc., from a single company into multiple companies by assembling a team of dedicated employees through recruitment and training.
“This city needs to be run more like a business where all of the citizens, who are the city’s primary customers, receive excellent customer service,” said Lowe. “We can no longer afford to have government servants who are unqualified, incapable or unmotivated to perform their duties. I am the only candidate in this race who has the proven experience of successfully managing a large company with a diverse group of employees. Having this skill will ensure that I will deliver results to the residents of Gary.”
Lowe is committed to bringing more jobs, industries and opportunities to Gary. Lowe is Vice President of the Northwest Indiana Beverage Merchants Association (NIMBA). A Past-President of the Glen Park Merchants Association, he is a member of the steering committee for the Glen Park Weed & Seed Program.
Lowe’s devotion to youth programs developed from his experience as a coach with the Glen Park Biddy Basketball league where he currently serves as President. Building on his commitment, Lowe sponsored events for the Boys and Girls Club and donated to or supported innumerable events throughout the city including Lew Wallace High School’s Athletic programs.
“What I can do is act as a bridge between our diverse social, economic, religious and cultural communities so we can better communicate and work together,” said Lowe. “I can identify the problems facing our youth and work with existing groups and agencies to develop programs and partnerships to address those problems. Most of all, what I can do is bring a sound business mind, a consummate understanding of many of Gary’s unique problems, a history of strong community commitment, and an impeccable record of fiscal ethics and accountability to the mayor’s office.”
Lowe is a member of the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. He and his wife, Evelyn, have five children: Joseph 26, LaTroy 22, Sean 16, Lester III 9, and Brooke 8. The family is currently renovating a house in Glen Park.
