(San Diego) As a result of the recent incidents of violence against women, We Love Kempo has created a self defense program called Army of Angels that offers four, free, one-hour self defense classes to girls and women in the community. Lead Instructor for the program Kristen Colwell reminds students that “as with all sports, true self defense ability is developed through repetitive and consistent training. If we laugh at the idea of competing with Serena Williams after one tennis lesson, why expect our girls to be able to defend themselves in a stressful situation after minimal self defense training?”
The goal of the free Army of Angels classes is to assist students in developing the ability to effectively defend themselves. Self defense takes practice...consistent practice, one class is not enough. Girl Scouts, soccer teams, track teams, moms and daughters, and groups of friends have attended these free classes.
Class member and assistant instructor Michelle Vonn states “These classes have changed my life for the positive in so many ways. I have had situations in which I had to use these techniques and this has saved my life, I am sure of that.”
