New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council Holds Expo in NYC on June 15

June 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Innovative strategies for minority business to grow through social media and unique collaborations will be explored at the New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council’s Business Opportunity Expo 2010 on Tuesday, June 15 at the New York Marriott Marquis, 1535 Broadway in New York City.

“This year’s Expo explores novel business tactics for the new economy. Whether its Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn or iPad and iPhone, social networking is no longer personal, but integral to business,” said Lynda Ireland, president and CEO, The Council. “But, social media has profits and pitfalls. Minority business owners are encouraged to leverage interactive media to create unique collaborations.”  

The keynote speaker is Frans Johansson, author of the best-selling book The Medici Effect: Breakthrough Insights at the Intersection of Ideas, Concepts and Cultures, which has been translated into 17 languages. The Medici Effect makes a business case for diversity through proving that unique ideas and innovations are created through diverse collaborations of skills, expertise and cultures. Raised in Sweden by his African American-Cherokee mother and Swedish father, Johansson earned his bachelors degree from Brown University in environmental science and holds a Harvard MBA.

Plenary speaker Wendy Chin, who has an engineering degree from Cornell University and a MBA from the Wharton School of Business, is the former Chief Operating Officer of Hospital Without Borders.  Chin is a veteran in the high tech industry with an expertise ranging from establishing start-ups to collaborating with multi-national companies.  

The Council’s Expo is considered New York City’s top conference on outsourcing to minority businesses. This year’s Expo, Innovative Growth for the New Decade, is packed with a breakfast, and luncheon, workshops, seminars, an elegant evening reception and the popular trade fair. Attendees include top minority entrepreneurs and supplier diversity executives from major Fortune 500 companies, institutions and government agencies.
