New green technology will reduce the carbon footprint while cutting costs for fleet operators
SkyPatrol, the leading provider of GPS based asset and fleet tracking systems unveiled a new Go Greenservice platform today, in response to the ever tightening legal restrictions placed on fleet operators. SkyPatrol Go Green technology is aimed at reducing unnecessary carbon emissions and minimizing waste while complying with state and local regulations.
Through innovative new applications of second generation GPS and cellular technology SkyPatrol’s Go Green options provide real solutions for fleet operators who, every day, face changes in fuel costs, new idling laws and added pressure to act in a socially responsible manner. “These services were developed, hand in hand with our manufacturers and satellite partners to help fleet operators become more environmentally friendly while saving money,” says Jeff Hanft, President of SkyPatrol North America.
The Product Line
The new SkyPatrol Go Green service is currently available throughout the United States and Canada. The service is compatible with a full line of vehicle tracking products like the TT8750 Evolution. SkyPatrol is fully integrated with Google Earth to provide real time positioning and alert information accessible by any internet connected laptop or cellular phone. An additional option pairs the SkyPatrol service with a Garmin portable GPS device to download analytics and optimized route maps directly to a display in the vehicle to help drivers operate efficiently. SkyPatrol Go Green also employs features like remote engine monitoring and shut down, real time speed limit alerts and efficient mapping and routing techniques to reduce waste.
Remote Engine Shutoff
Since 2005 thirty-two states and the District of Columbia have placed strict time limits on light truck and bus idling. These limits include fines usually starting around $300 though in parts of Colorado it is possible to be sentenced to a year in prison for excess idling.
SkyPatrol offers a new feature included in most service packages that will not only monitor excess idling alerts but will automatically shut off the engine remotely if it idles beyond a preset time limit. This feature alone provides an average annual fuel savings of 3% though in colder regions where operators are known to idle longer the savings should be much more substantial.
Speed Limit Alerts
It is estimated that fleet vehicles traveling at an average speed of 75 MPH burn 30% more fuel than those traveling at 60 MPH. This equates not only to higher fuel costs, but also to a doubling of carbon monoxide emissions. SkyPatrol’s new real-time speed alert technology immediately identifies vehicles traveling over a preset speed limit and communicates this to supervisors via e-mail or text message. Not only does this level of supervision increase driver safety, it also saves money and greatly reduces the company’s carbon footprint.
Efficient Mapping & Routing
After idling and speeding, inefficient route planning has the next largest impact on both the environment and the bottom line. SkyPatrol’s state-of-the-
