Telegreen unleashes ‘Baby Jaws’ to UK bar scene
Award-winning, under-the-counter bottle crusher reduces glass waste volume by 80%

Recycling specialist Telegreen is launching Baby Jaws – an under-the-counter bottle crusher to the UK. The machine reduces the volume of glass waste by a staggering 80%.

Winner of the Shell award for innovation, Baby Jaws is a green, mean recycling machine, which helps pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafés save money by reducing waste disposal costs. Baby Jaws also keeps your neighbours happy by cutting down the clutter of clinking glass being chucked out at night.

A lot of bottles? Crush them with Baby Jaws. Available at Stand F35 at Bar.10

Irish bars are already using the low-noise machine – also known as the PEL BB01 – which launches at Bar.10 before rolling out to the UK and Europe.

It was publican Gerry O’Boyle, former owner of Filthy Mac Nasty’s and now The Boogaloo in Highgate, who first identified a need for Baby Jaws.
The Boogaloo is London’s busiest rock n roll venue and with such a vast amount of bottles to dispose of, O’Boyle knew he had to find a waste solution.

“I had done huge amounts of research into different machines for The Boogaloo but couldn’t find a suitable, small low-maintenance machine – then I discovered PEL,” says O’Boyle.

“I called them immediately and had Baby Jaws installed at The Boogaloo. My belief in the BB01 machine is so strong that I set up Telegreen to sell PEL’s products and here we are today, launching the under-counter Baby Jaws in the UK.''

Baby Jaws allows publicans, club operators, hotel and restaurant owners to achieve:
   An 80% reduction in volume in their waste bins
   Huge savings in waste disposal costs and less bins needed
   Limit neighbours’ concerns over clinking bottles when bins are put out late –
a long-standing problem for licensees in residential areas
   Low noise [52dbs] and low energy use – Baby Jaws takes a standard plug
   A financially-viable solution to publicans’ recycling issues.

O’Boyle explains: “Publicans should have a capital allowance with your business of which you can offset the cost of the machine – £2,000 – against your tax bill if you haven’t used up your capital allowance. As the allowance is £100,000 per annum, it’s likely that most publicans can claim on this.

“The machine is very easy to install and use – you just put it on an even surface and plug it in. The bottles are fed into a continuous feeder and the cullet* is collected into a tray underneath.” [*a cullet is another term for crushed glass]

Baby Jaws stops automatically when the tray reaches 22kg in weight and needs to be emptied. The cullet can then be transferred into strong bin-liners for collection.
