Why WuInstall?
Updating Windows systems is one of the most important concerns of IT administrators. It is usually done automatically, either via the external Microsoft Update Server or an internal WSUS. The pain with this is that users most commonly get disturbed by this resource-consuming process of requesting available updates and, even worse, reboots can occur at virtually any time - not only on Microsoft Patch Day! Especially after having computers newly set up, these updates and reboots to bring the system to the latest patch level can annoy users for hours. WuInstall allows for doing this in the background, at scheduled times when a user does not need his machine.

Updating Systems in a Controlled Way
WuInstall enables IT administrators to install Windows updates for a certain workstation in a controlled way by using command line batch scripts instead of the standard Windows update functionality.
Many administrators integrate WuInstall with their customized patching solutions, which is quite easy since it is a command line tool and can therefore be facilitated by virtually any other program.
For example, WuInstall can be run in a shutdown script to install updates when users do not need the machine. Furthermore it is also frequently used after setups to initially patch a workstation all at once.
WuInstall utilizes the Windows Update API and offers many options to search for updates by product, severity or priority or just certain query strings. There are also many other useful options like time limits for update installations, the possibility to bypass a WSUS server or input and output files. WuInstall can either just check for available updates, or also download and install them.
Worldwide Demand
WuInstall is used by about 10,000 companies worldwide, amongst them are several big enterprises, search engine providers, military facilities and many public institutions like schools, universities and research labs.
Two versions of WuInstall are available: The basic version WuInstall 1.1 is freeware and enables to search, download and install updates.
WuInstall 1.2. PRO is the commercial version with a lot of additional options and features. Prices start at USD 250 depending on the number of managed workstations and servers and the type of organization – commercial or non-commercial.
