The Green Business Bureau’s Guest Blogger Series features entries by leaders in the green business sphere. “Green Tech IP: Look Before You Leap”, authored by intellectual property by specialist George Snyder of the law firm of Troutman Sanders.

June 8, 2010 - PRLog -- June 8, 2010, HOUSTON – The Green Business Bureau (GBB) announced today that it has published the third entry in its Guest Blogger Series.  Authored by international intellectual property (IP) specialist George Snyder, of the law firm Troutman Sanders, and titled “Green Tech IP: Look Before You Leap”, the entry discusses the importance of due diligence on existing patents and applications before introducing new technologies (http://www.gbb.org/blog/green-tech-ip-look-before-you-leap).

Snyder’s blog entry on due diligence for new green tech applications includes case studies of patent infringement lawsuits.  While the circumstances vary slightly, it’s important to note that even though the defendants in these cases were “doing the right thing” environmentally, they were still open to attack by entities seeking to protect their IP investments.

“George Snyder has provided us with a wealth of information on Green Tech IP,” Marcos Cordero, GBB’s CEO and co-founder.  “This entry provides a valuable cautionary tale on the need not only to complete due diligence with regards to environmental regulations and standards, but to also include patent rights in evaluating the usability of new green tech applications.”

Snyder has a broad-spectrum intellectual property practice at the international law firm, Troutman Sanders.  His experience includes litigation on behalf of patent and trademark owners, defense of alleged infringers, as well as in major studies undertaken to “clear” the introduction of new products, services and brand names into the marketplace, and IP-related transactional work.

A further significant aspect of Snyder’s practice is the procurement of patents and registrations to protect cutting-edge technology and trademark assets in a variety of industries. He has wide-ranging expertise in all phases of the preparation and prosecution of applications for patent and trademark registration in many different fields, including the chemical arts, sensor technology, and industrial processing, both inside and outside of the U.S.

Snyder has written several articles on intellectual property issues, including "Perspective: Patent Infringement Scorecard for the Federal Appeals Courts" The New York Law Journal, and "No-Nonsense Management of I.P. Assets" The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel.
“The GBB is proud to host such a well-respected and knowledgeable voice on IP issues,” says Cordero.  “We know our members will definitely benefit from the advice George has to offer.”
