PRLog (Press Release) - Jun 07, 2010 -
Bangalore June 7, 2010 – Smartesting, designer and developer of software solutions for automated test generation, announced today that its Smartesting Center solution has achieved “Ready for IBM Rational Software” validation. This IBM designation was announced during IBM Rational’s INNOVATE 2010 conference in Orlando, Fla., where the solution is being demonstrated to a large audience of IBM customers and partners. For the first time, Smartesting is introducing model-based testing as an extension to the IBM Rational solution, which brings major productivity gains and quality improvements in the test design activities using the IBM Rational Jazz platform.
This announcement includes Smartesting’s achievement of IBM Partnerworld Advanced Partner status. This new integration will benefit many IBM Rational customers and will also help federate an increasing number of service providers and system integrators who target test industrialization as a key contributor to the business success of their customers.
“We’re pleased that Smartesting can offer a model-based testing paradigm for test teams relying on IBM Rational Jazz solutions for all types of applications, including packaged applications,” said Michael Loria, vice president, IBM Rational Business Development. “Our customers who are looking for ways to improve the automation, quality and delivery of solutions should find value in the Smartesting Rational Quality Manager and Rational software Modeler integrated offerings.”
“Smartesting brings innovation to the ALM market where IBM Rational has been playing a key role for a long time with its complete software development lifecycle portfolio. Smartesting customers are also IBM customers and they need a long term commitment to the technologies they need to implement in order to solve their most critical business issues. Quality management is still a very painful and costly activity for the customers we meet on a daily basis. Smartesting provides the most advanced and productive solution on the market today for helping with the functional testing that relies on ALM products already in place,” said Laurent Py, CEO of Smartesting.
Thanks to its unique automatic test generation technology, Smartesting provides a field-proven solution that complements the IBM Rational modeling, requirement management and test management solutions. Smartesting’s core product, Test Designer v4.0, is now integrated with IBM Rational Quality Manager and IBM Rational Functional Tester and reduces the amount of effort for updating the tests. The Smartesting solution implements model-based testing as an extension to the IBM Rational solutions to provide automatic test generation and automated impact analysis when tests must be updated. Test analysts are now able to industrialize test design with the description of expected behaviors as BPMN and UML test models within IBM Rational Software Modeler. Test assets, manipulated by testers, are no

longer captured manually but instead are automatically populated and synchronized in Rational Quality Manager and Rational Functional Tester with Smartesting Test Designer.
According to a recent independent research report from Forrester Research, Inc. “The Testing Tools Landscape: 2010”, “Functional tools offer broad support for the testing process, but they are not comprehensive. To ensure coverage, especially in service-oriented architecture (SOA) and Internet applications, teams need specialized tools to augment automated and manual testing. Some of these tools fill gaps where certain types of testing won't detect problems, and some assist in managing complex environments.” wrote the report.
“The increasing adoption of model-based testing as a real game-changer is a major breakthrough for functional testing. Test managers and testers can now experience much more agility and impressive productivity gains in the test design phase since painful and error-prone manual test preparation tasks can now be handled by the test generation algorithms we provide with our solution. It not only saves time but gives additional confidence about what is indeed going to be tested. The test repository is a database that does not need to be populated and maintained manually anymore. Model-based testing proves it can now become a computer-aided task, which helps testers focus much more on what they do best, namely deciding on a test strategy, validating the requirements to be tested and choosing relevant data and verification point,.” said Emmanuel Vergé, product marketing director, Smartesting.
Smartesting customers have experienced up to 70% in increased productivity during the maintenance phase of their test repository and up to 50% in increased productivity for the first creation of the tests. Model based Testing can be applied to any validation project type that includes both manual execution and automated execution of the tests directly from IBM Rational Quality Manager. With the latest version of Smartesting Test Designer it is now easier to share a common vision about the testing needs with business analysts  through the Business Process modeling activity: BPMN models can now be used for test generation. From the Smartesting Test Designer Version 4.0 dashboard it is now possible to synchronize the test model and the test repository based on Requirements and Risks Based Testing (RRBT) strategies with a view to better align with the project’s needs.
