2010 marks the 150th anniversary of the first Japanese diplomatic mission to the United States and its enthusiastic reception in New York City on June 16, 1860.
On June 6th, 2010, Japan Day, New York’s largest Japanese summer festival, was held at Central Park in New York City. On the event, Samurai Parade was demonstrated by more than 100 casts for the cerebration of the 150th anniversary. All the casts wore kimono and made a parade at Central Park in Samurai styles.
Mode & Classic LLC proudly provided styling and background research for 3 ambassadors' kimono at Japan Day @ Central Park 2010 in NYC. We made the samurai style, similar as the traditional Japanese samurai style which excited enthusiasm in New Yorkers in 1860. 3 ambassadors in real samurai style paraded with more than 50 accompanied samurais. One of the 3 ambassadors was Mr. Shinichi Nishimiya, an Japanese ambassador and consul general in New York. All they got applause from many New Yorkers.
