PRLog - Jun. 6, 2010 - MORTON GROVE, Ill. -- On the weekends of  May 15-16 and May, 22-23, Morton Grove Trustees joined with members of the Action Party and hit the streets of the 58th and 59th precincts. The purpose was to meet and talk to registered voters.  The goal of these “Walks N’ Talks” is to determine what issues concern the residents of Morton Grove and to offer a non-structured, meaningful way to relay these to the elected officials.

Action Party members have been doing these “Walk n’ Talks” in the spring and fall every year for over a decade. This event is one way in which the Action Party is able to let residents know that they are being heard year round—in election years as well as non-election years.  The Walk n’ Talk events have proven to be very successful.

Residents were asked what they think about how the Village government can better help them, if they have any specific concerns they would like to express and what suggestions they have for improving their Village.  Postcards, preaddressed to the Mayor, Clerk, and Trustees, were left at each residence visited for additional thoughts and concerns.

Mayor Daniel Staackmann, Trustees Larry Gomberg, Shel Marcus, John Thill, and Maria Toth paired off with members of the Action Party including Mark Matz, President; Terri Cousar, Secretary; Lori Gattorna, Treasurer, David Calimag, MD and Ed Ramos.  Some of the residents interviewed commented that they were happy to see elected officials taking an interest in a non-election year.  One person noted that she is a New Jersey transplant who, prior to moving here, researched and chose Morton Grove and is thrilled with her decision.

The topic of the Senior Center was brought up by several residents.  They praised the resolution of the financial limitations of the Village in the Board’s decision to place the Center under the auspices of North Shore Senior Center and feel that there have already been a number of improvements.  An appreciation of the emphasis on communication was expressed by a number of residents. Morton Grove is keeping up with a very fast moving lifestyle through Cable TV, You Tube, the Village’s Website, E-Mail Newsletters, Printed Newsletters and Meetings.

The Action Party is proud that the every member of the Village Board is an Action Party member, presenting a unified vision of open, honest, and efficient government. The Village Board wants to lead Morton Grove to bigger and better accomplishments, and pledges to work for Morton Grove first and foremost, maintaining valuable core services while listening and responding to the concerns of the Village’s businesses and residents.
