Fashion On Fulton Hits Brooklyn

Gala Fashion Show and Charity Event to Benefit Brooklyn Community Housing & Services

June 5, 2010 - PRLog -- What do fashion and homelessness have in common?  Everything if you are Brooklyn Community Housing and Services.  The 31 year old non-profit is hosting their annual Gala and Fashion Show fundraiser on June 10th at the stunning Skylight One Hanson space in Brooklyn.  Executive Director Jeff Nemetsky has spearheaded the event for the past few years moving it this year from Brooklyn Academy of Music to the new venue.  “We wanted to breathe some new life into the event,”  Nemetsky continued.  “Skylight One Hanson is a stunning venue that allows us to present a unique event that will showcase what we feel are the best fashion designers in Brooklyn.  Having this platform for our homegrown Brooklyn talent to showcase their work is what the agency is all about.  We want to show that our residents can do and achieve anything and that Brooklyn is a portrait of a community.”

The event which will kick off at 6pm with a cocktail hour and silent auction is produced and coordinated by India-Jewel Jackson of Chic Creative and Lianne Farbes of Digital Girl Consulting (http://www.liannefarbes.com).  Both Jackson and Farbes have extensive experience in the fashion world having both worked on events for both celebrity taste makers and Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week in previous years.  Fashion designers who all hail from Brooklyn have been chosen that reflect the mission and message of community that BCHS stands for.  The designers chosen are Brooklyn Junior, Better Than Jam, Better Than Jam Collective, Trudy Miller Layers and Still Hip.

In addition, Farbes has secured sponsorship from COVERGIRL cosmetics who will be providing the makeup for the models and world renowned makeup artist Victoria Stiles (http://www.victoriastiles.com) who is bringing a team of talented makeup artists with her to paint the faces of the models who will be gracing the runway.  Hair is by Vince Smith of the Vince Smith Hair Experience in New York (http://vincesmithhairexperience.com).  Vince is also bringing a team of talented hair professionals to create the looks that are seen on the runway.

The emcee for the evening is print and runway model Luceliania “Lu” Sierra (http://www.lusierra.com).  Lu trains and choreographs for Ford Supermodels International in several countries. Lu is also the runway coach for The Miss U.S.A and Miss Universe pageants.  The Brooklyn Steppers, who were featured in the inauguration of President Barack Obama are featured in the beginning of the show and there are several honorees for the evening.  Those honorees include WABC-TV’s Vice President of Community Affairs, Saundra Thomas and BCHS board member Tom Castelnuovo.

Fashion on Fulton is poised to be a fabulous event to raise much needed money for a great cause.
