National Summit on Chemical Industry 2020 takes off in Ankleshwar

June 5, 2010, India:  The 2-day National Summit on Chemical Industry 2020 - ‘Vision & Action’ began at Ankleshwar, at the sprawling AIA Convention Centre here, today.Jointly organized by Ankleshwar Environment Preservation Society (AEPS) and Industries Commissionerate, Government of Gujarat the summit is being hosted by Ankleshwar Industries Association (AIA).

Present on the dais for the inaugural session were the Industries Commissioner Mr. B B Swain, GPCB Chairman, Dr K U Mistry, Prof (Dr.) G.D Yadav, Director, Institute of Chemical Technology , Mumbai and Dr. Tapan Chakrabarti, Director, NEERI, Nagpur.
The summit focused on the socio -economic development in the region that is Beyond Business. It was attended by the leaders of the Indian Chemical industry and the segment specialists.
Mr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, MD, GNFC Introduced the attendees about the objectives of the summit.
The Chairperson of Ankleshwar Envirnmental Preservation Socity, Mr. N K Navadia informed that AEPS has spent Rs. 150 crores in the social infrastructure development of the Ankleshwar industrial region. He said the industry in Ankleshwar is confident that these initiatives will give direction to the industrial development of this largest industrial estate of the continent Asia.

Speaking on occasion, Guest of Honour, Mr. Rainer Heubach, Chairman, Heubach Colors Pvt. Ltd. said that Gujarat has build a world class chemical hub. And ecology and economy have to go hand in hand, he said. The ecological awareness with honest and transparent practices and setting of bench marks for a staggered implementation in the pollution control can help in waste water management and CO2 emissions.
While comparing the countries of India and China, Mr. Heubach stated that India with its ethics and traditions of culture and twice over young population with communication ability in English gives it an edge. However, this natural gift of youth needs to be fully tapped by education and its very important. In India why Gujarat makes it a better choice to do business;  Mr. Heubach said, with the religion, democracy and openness combined together with the above 2 qualities it is happier to be here than to some other country.
While deliberating on the waste management, he said, steps should be taken to conserve Ecology and effort to be made to convert waste into chemical products. He concluded his speech by saying that rise of exponential growth can be fought only with exponential wisdom and Knowledge and future of chemicals should be high on productivity with no waste.

Mr. Dushyant Patel, MLA, Bharuch, said: that transparent approach of the government of Gujarat with infrastructure facilities has helped in cutting red tapism which has changed for the good of the state. The CSR and Social infrastructure development in the state have today made Gujarat to stand out and no other state can compete with Gujarat.
Parliamentary Secretary, Government of Gujarat and MLA, Ankleshwar, Mr. Ishwarbhai Patel said that chemical industry has contributed to the development of Gujarat. He hopes that development of the Industry takes place in consideration with social and environmental cause.

Chief Guest at the seminar, Mr. D. Rajagopalan, IAS , Chairman, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd. (SSNNL), said: , Gujarat contributes to 59% of total chemical production of the country and the depth and breadth of the industrial locations in Gujarat is huge and holistic. Gujarat has the ideal ecosystem required for chemical industry in the form of CETPs (Common Effluent treatment plant) and common incineration plants for solid waste management. However, the indelible mark of pollution that is attached to the industrial area of this region needs to be addressed and he suggested that cleaner production techniques should be utilized which will help in minimization of waste, clean technology awareness where he sought intervention from the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India to act upon the elements of awareness generation on minimizing the waste by bringing the technology and knowledge together. For this he also stressed upon the introduction of Nano technology where he said the financial assistance in R&D can be planned and provided by the Government. He concluded that that activity has to be made economy viable where profit optimization should be the goal rather than profit maximization.
He ended his address saying that in this Swarnim year of the state, the chemical industry should pledge to see that indelible situation gets removed and our rivers are as clean as the Rhine and Thames with sharing of knowledge and technology transfer thus establishing ecosystem which will make the industry in Gujarat really Vibrant.
While extending the vote of thanks, Mr. Prabodh Patel, President of AIA expressed that we are confident that the deliberations of the summit would lead us to an environment which is ecologically balanced and leads to the sustainable development of the Ankleshwar Industrial Area.
Meanwhile a grand technology showcase exhibition with participation from Dahej SEZ, Indextb,GIDC,Balaji fibres Renif Pvt Ltd ,Sterling SEZ &Infra Ltd,3M and the leading chemical and allied industries of the region  was opened on June 2, 2010 by Shri Ishwarsinh T Patel, Secretary Parliamentary affairs
