First Lady Michelle Obama recently commissioned an all volunteer project titled “Chefs Move To Schools” affording an opportunity for chefs around the country to adopt a local school to help solve the childhood obesity epidemic within a generation. “Chefs Move to Schools” will pair chefs with schools in their communities to bring fun to fruits and vegetables, and teach kids about food, nutrition and cooking in an engaging way.

The United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA) was invited to join the effort involving Share Our Strength, which is working with the White House to facilitate engagement by chefs and food educators around the country.

"We are going to need everyone's time and talent to solve the childhood obesity epidemic and our Nation's chefs have tremendous power as leaders on this issue because of their deep knowledge of food and nutrition and their standing in the community. I want to thank them for joining the Let's Move! Campaign" stated Michelle Obama.

USPCA President Gail Kenagy along with 40 chefs will represent the USPCA during the launch function at the White House on June 4th.  “By working with school food service employees, administrators and teachers, our chefs can help deliver these important messages from the cafeteria to the classroom” stated Kenagy. “We put the request out for chefs to volunteer for this campaign and had an immediate response from more than 100 personal chefs from across the country.  That number continues to rise. We have limited seating available at the launch event and some of our chefs are traveling from as far as California to be involved with the White House launch” Kenagy continued.

The USPCA is the largest professional trade organization for personal chefs throughout North America.  Established in 1991, USPCA chefs are located in all 50 states and each Canadian province.
