Local chefs from The Stocked Pot join Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign

More than 50 American Culinary Federation Chefs Join Fight Against Obesity and Head to the White House for “Chefs Move to Schools” Kickoff June 4

Winston-Salem, NC June 3, 2010:  Local catering company and cooking school, The Stocked Pot has been selected to represent NC in Michelle Obama’s latest Let’s Move! campaign initiative - the Chefs Move to Schools Program.  The program, which will be run thru the U.S. Department of Agriculture is being led by White House assistant chef Sam Kass. More than 50 ACF chefs will participate in the program’s kickoff at the White House Friday, June 4.

Chefs nationwide will get involved in the program by adopting a school in their community and working with teachers, parents, school nutrition professionals and administrators to help educate kids about food and nutrition. Locally, The Stocked Pot has long been involved with the Head Start program. This participating chefs will include:
Andrew McMillan, Winston-Salem, owner, The Stocked Pot Cooking School, Winston-Salem
Donald McMillan, CEC, AAC, Lewisville, chef-instructor, The Stocked Pot Cooking School, Winston-Salem
Dennie Streeter Veasey, CEC, CCE, Winston-Salem, culinary instructor, Triad Community Kitchen, Winston-Salem

About The Stocked Pot: Located at 381 Jonestown Road in Winston-Salem, they have hosted culinary talents such as John Folse, Jacques Pepin, Julia Child, Guliano Hazan, Jude Theriot, and more. With a state of the art classroom, students can watch a 50-inch split screen television and can see what the instructor is doing step by step.  Classes typically hold up to 30 people and are offered weekday evenings and weekend days at varying degrees of skill level. In addition to catering and the cooking school, they offer a huge selection of culinary tools that will please chefs of any skill level.
