June 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Leading online retailer of childrens toys DiscoverMe categorises its educational toys to complement the recognised structure of learning known as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Over the coming months the DiscoverMe website (http://www.discovermetoys.co.uk/) will feature exclusive articles from Sarah Parry, Director of the not for profit organisation L.I.F.E. Each article will look at how parents can help their child develop in all of these vital areas. The first article looks at the Early Learning Goal: Communication, Language and Literacy.

L.I.F.E (Life Improvement for Everyone) is an organisation largely led by volunteers which aims to “support people in need through friendship, education and effective therapies”. Its Director Sarah Parry believes that the UK government-backed learning structure EYFS is a useful framework in which parents can help their child’s development in key areas.  Parry also endorses DiscoverMe’s “vision for…combining information about child development with a practical shopping source for families and friends”. That’s why she has chosen to share her ideas (based on her experience as a psychologist and child development expert) on how every parent can interpret the EYFS in a series of articles which will appear on the DiscoverMe website. Parents can get practical advice on how to apply the EYFS to their every-day parenting and then purchase educational toys from the website that will help their child play, learn and develop in each area.

The first article, ‘Spring has Sprung, Your Turn Mummy! (Early Learning Foundation Stage: Communication, Language and Literacy) looks at why positive communication is so important in the healthy development of a child, drawing on Parry’s fascinating and heart-wrenching experience working with children in Romania. Parry discusses the Intensive Interaction theory which teaches the pre-speech fundamentals of communication and suggests some great hands-on ideas for applying this theory, specifically through introducing a young child to the outdoors. The article includes outdoor activities every parent can easily try with their own child, and delves into the role that these activities play in developing communication, language and literacy in young and developing minds. Future articles from Sarah Parry which will also appear on Discovermetoys.co.uk will look at the other EYFS stages: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy; Knowledge and Understanding of the World; Physical Development; and Creative Development.

In addition to discovering practical applications of the EYFS on the DiscoverMe website, parents can also browse through the range of children’s and baby toys which are helpfully grouped within each of the stages. The DiscoverMe collection of toys ranges from playmats for babies through to traditional wooden toys and popular brands of toys such as Lamaze and Plan Toys.
