June 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Bali is a paradise that was recently discovered by the world in Elizabeth Gilbert’s ‘Eat, Pray, Love’, but some fortunate women learned the magical secret of the island many years ago.

Chelsea Huntley, founder of Surf Goddess Retreats ( http://www.surfgoddessretreats.com ) , is one of the lucky few who has been enjoying the serenity of  island life for over 25 years and now shares her experience with other women at her boutique women’s surf and yoga retreats.

“I first arrived on Bali's beaches in 1973 as a child when my adventurous parents moved to Indonesia to live. I grew up amongst the warmth of the Balinese people and its vibrant Hindu, which have remained fundamentally unchanged over the years”, explains Chelsea.

“Surf Goddess Retreats all began while I was relaxing with my friends after we had finished another fantastic day surfing together in Bali. We all agreed that the best times in our lives had been when we were simply hanging out in the waves being ‘girls’”, says Chelsea. “I decided then that it was time to make the camaraderie, laughter and fun we shared available to all women who travel to our beloved island and also to spread the great truth that surfing can be enjoyed by women of all ages, shapes and fitness levels.”

Surf goddess was the term surfers used to refer to the bikini clad babe who was busy bronzing herself on the beach while watching the boys surf. Today on the ‘Island of the Gods’ there is a new type of surf goddess on the scene and you won’t find her on the sand, instead she’s out riding the waves side-by-side with guys.

Chelsea started the retreats in 2003 when she working as professional life coach with individuals and corporations throughout Australia and Asia. As part of the retreat’s program today Chelsea offers life coaching workshops for her guests.

“I guess I just followed the advice I would often give my clients, ‘do what you love’,” jokes Chelsea. “Today I feel  privileged to be able combine my life's passions of surfing and encouraging women to live life to the fullest.”

The 8 day wellbeing program is designed specifically for busy professional women who want to take time out for themselves.

“I believe that something wonderful happens when women surf, we grow more confident in ourselves, we find new places in our soul, we wash away the cares of the world and see the big picture of our lives and our place in it. “ says Chelsea. “Surfing is more than simply a sport; it is a state of mind and way of being.”

Set in chic village of Seminyak, Bali, the program includes surf lessons, yoga, spa treatments and gourmet cuisine along a variety of activities such as Indonesian cooking classes and bike rides from mountain lakes down to the Ubud to visit the now famous healers in Eat, Pray, Love.

“We don't believe you need to rough it to go on a surf or yoga holiday. Instead great care has been taken to create a pampering space fit for a Goddess!” says Chelsea.

Guests are transported away from the modern world to a softer, gentler place full of fanciful feminine details. The retreat is held at a rambling private villa, where the interiors would make designer India Hicks proud. It’s a charming blend of laidback island style while fully equipped with all the modern luxuries the retreats guests’ expect from Bose iPod speakers, fully air-conditioned rooms and private chef serving exquisitely prepared gourmet meals daily.

Keeping the groups small and personal, Surf Goddess Retreats focuses on providing an indulgent experience. “Most surf camps in the region cater for the ‘hard core’ male surfers or backpackers who are content with a cold shower and a couple of beers at the end of the day. We know that our guests are looking for a different experience. We want the same quality waves, but with amenities to suit the ‘surf goddesses’ that we are!” shares Chelsea.

8 Day Surf, Yoga & Spa Retreat packages begin at $1895
