Beginning July 6, the summer course will offer group and individual sessions for aspiring singers between the ages of 13 and 18, and individual sessions for students over 18. The course will cover singing techniques for theater, film and television, as well as basic music theory.
“With the success of ‘Glee,’ ‘American Idol,’ and other shows centered on music that are all the rage these days, we saw the need to offer these sessions in our area,” said SSM artistic director Marc Hoffman, who also teaches voice, piano, composition and improvisation. “Singers have a great advantage in auditions and in performance if they learn the proper techniques necessary for performance in these specific arenas.”
Hoffman notes that techniques for successfully singing on the stage, in film, or on television differ greatly from solo recital techniques. “Eye contact, facial expression, volume, microphone techniques, etc., are all essential,” he said.
Singing For The Stage sessions will begin Tuesday, July 6, and continue each Tuesday throughout the month. Tuition is $60 for group session and $100 for individual sessions.
