June 1, 2010 - PRLog -- DTLR along with Arizona Cardinals’ Darnell Dockett and Minnesota Vikings’ Visanthe Shiancoe will host the DTLR Football Clinic on Monday, June 28, beginning  at 9 a.m. The camp will be held at Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex (8001 Sheriff Road, Landover, MD). This free one-day football camp offers comprehensive football drills for 300 student-athletes entering grades 8 – 12 during the 2010 – 2011 school year.  The camp also features a complimentary lunch for participating student-athletes, fun morning warm-up for parents and a recruiting seminar for parents and student- athletes.

“DTLR realizes sports is often time the dreams of many urban youth,” said DTLR Community Outreach Manager Sherri Goodall.  “We want to help them reach their goals; so, we have partnered with several outstanding football players and high school coaches in the DMV to help them increase their skills on the field. It only makes sense to bring sports, professional athletes and DTLR’s community efforts together in a way that benefits everyone involved.”

Camp participants will perform agility drills, offensive and defensive fundamentals broken down by position and seven-on-seven passing drills.  After lunch, parents and students will receive an overview of the college recruiting process by a representative from National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) and have an opportunity to engage Dockett and Shiancoe and their NFL friends during a question and answer session.  Check out scenes from the 2009 DTLR-sponsored camp in Atlanta - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10-Zgykk91I.

“This camp is designed to develop serious student-athletes into great players,” says Dockett.  “It offers students a unique hands-on training experience that will expose them to the same techniques and drills I used in college and that I continue to use today in the NFL.”

Adds Shiancoe: “It takes more than on-the-field action to get from high school to the pros. It was important that the camp offered comprehensive on-the-field drills and information on what is required academically for them to succeed past high school; they are students before they are athletes.”

Goodall says DTLR partnered with these two players partly because they are from the DMV. Shiancoe is from Silver Spring and Dockett from Burtonsville.

“Vishanthe and Darnell understood the importance of making this a free camp, especially during these hard economic times,” said Goodall.  “They were willing to put in a lot of work and bring other players to the event that have the same passion and commitment as DTLR to giving back to the community and making sure these student-athletes have quality interaction and walk away better players and students.”

Parents are strongly encouraged to pre-register their child for the camp as there are only 300 spaces available.  Interested student-athletes can also pre - register online - http://www.active.com/football-camp/landover-md/dc-native....

Online registration is currently open.  Onsite registration is available and begins at 8 a.m. the day of the camp.
