Everyone has been on the intiating or receiving end of a difficult conversation. They are a struggle. But what if those dialogues didn't have to be so anxiety or anger provoking?

Sweat beads form on the forehead. Butterflies, or maybe even pterodactyls, fly about the stomach. Words are rehearsed in the head until the original meaning is jumbled and forgotten. This is the body’s reaction to a difficult conversation.

Everyone has faced them. Asking the boss for a raise in a declining economy. Confronting a colleague on a misunderstanding. Discussing a sensitive issue with a loved one. A difficult conversation can be a confession, request, clarification or anything that creates a nervous or fearful reaction in the body.

For over four years, One Journey Consulting has been helping people work through the most challenging conversations. Originally formed to assist people through the experience of divorce, One Journey is dedicated to personal renewal and rediscovery through all of life’s significant transitions: career change, health issues, aging parents or empty-nesting, personal loss, mid-life re-assessment. Through personal coaching and weekly workshops, clients learn new skills and receive coaching to help them navigate these transitions, and the accompanying difficult conversations, with clarity, compassion and purpose.

This June, One Journey Consulting brings the opportunity to learn conversation skills to a larger audience in their new Passport Series. Renee Cooper of One Journey Consulting states, “We realized the work we were doing with divorcing individuals could translate to everyone. We all struggle with communicating our thoughts and feelings, making requests, expressing differences of opinion. Whether it is at work, home or with friends, most of us avoid or dread having those difficult conversations. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are skills, approaches and mindsets that anyone can learn, that can help make these conversations easier and less intimidating, and ultimately more rewarding for everyone involved.”

The Passport Series will be offered as a weekly one-hour teleclass. The format will be part book group, part discussion group and part personal coaching. Each week, members will have reading assignments, and Ms. Cooper and her colleague, Di Hall, will facilitate a group discussion. Then opportunities will be provided for attendees to receive coaching or engage in problem solving on their own difficult conversation.

The Passport Series begins on June 25 and runs for four Friday afternoons. For more information, visit http://onejourneyconsulting.com/Calendar.html.
