While for now you can still do all these things even without a high speed broadband connection, in the future it might not be so easy. Since you're going to have to get connected anyway, why suffer with dial-up another day. Even if you live in a rural or remote area, keep in mind that someday you will need a broadband connection to do all of the following things!
1. Watch TV. Like it or not, more and more people are getting their television programs and movies via the internet than ever before. In some locations the use of the internet to watch television programming has passed actual television use. Try downloading or live streaming your favorite programs with dial-up. Not going to happen!
2. Drive. Many people today have GPS devices or other computer systems in their vehicles, but someday, expect the computer to be a standard device in cars, trucks, and other vehicles. From controlling the internet temperature to possible autopilot to work, computers are hitting the road.
3. Listen to the radio. Much in the same way that television in the US has gone entirely digital, expect the radio to follow suit. Although satellite radio didn't take off at first, expect that internet radio will be improved and someday replace the regular thing. At least you will be able to still listen to your favorite programs with satellite broadband!
4. Order take-out. Many restaurants today allow you to order online, since it is easier for the customer, allows for easy, secure credit card payment, and helps avoid mistakes. However, in order to get your delivery today, it's best to have a high speed internet connection.
5. Go to school. Attending online classes is becoming more and more popular, as is posting lectures and class materials on the internet. Someday, it may make sense for schools to offer more and more programs and classes taught remotely, in order to cut down on costs for classrooms, and professors. Imagine if every child in the country was taught by the best math professor in the nation. That can only happen with satellite internet broadband.
6. Work. Working remotely is certainly popular, and why not? It saves the employer tons of money, and is generally preferable for the employee who has much more freedom, saves on gas money, and never needs to buy a tie again. However, working remotely with dial-up just isn't going to happen. A fast, reliable, broadband connection will be required for the employees of the future.
7. Get the news. Much like television, expect all the best and most current news reports to head to the internet. In fact, today the vast majority of people report getting their news from the internet. It won't take long for the news channels to catch on.
8. Get the weather. Who needs the weather channel when it is possible to receive instant weather updates on your PC all day long? The truth is you'll need that satellite internet anyway to get the weather channel of the future.
9. Make a phone call. When calling is free online, why pay for a phone bill every again? Of course most people today use their cell phones, but with wireless internet taking over, cell phones will be making calls via the internet too!
10. Access your bank account. Watch out for printing paper money to go out of style. When everything can be done electronically, why waste all those trees? Get green while staying green with online banking in the future.
