IETF Publishes TURN and ICE RFCs for NAT Traversal

Eyeball AnyFirewall™ Technology Recognized for Internet-Grade Deployments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jun 02, 2010 -
Vancouver, June 1st, 2010 – The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) recently officially published the specifications for Traversal Using Relays around NAT (TURN) and Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) as RFCs within the Internet Standards Process. These standards, which formalize firewall and NAT traversal protocols first developed by Eyeball Networks, have also been adopted by CableLabs and 3GPP as part of PacketCable 2.0 and IMS, and represent the state of the art in firewall and NAT traversal.

The specifications published are as follows:

- RFC 5245: Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE): A Protocol for Network Address Translator (NAT) Traversal for Offer/Answer Protocols

- RFC 5766: Traversal Using Relays around NAT (TURN): Relay Extensions to Session Traversal Utilities for NAT (STUN)

The IETF has previously published a third NAT traversal specification:

- RFC 5389: STUN - Session Traversal Utilities for NAT

"Combined with AnyFirewall Engine and Server deployments by the likes of Brother, Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks and Polycom, publication of these RFCs is yet another vote of confidence in the power of AnyFirewall Technology,” said Dr. Shahadat Khan, Chief Strategy Officer of Eyeball. "We now have a stable, secure and standard foundation for deploying AnyFirewall Engine and Server for guaranteed firewall and NAT traversal into VoIP, video conferencing and many other Internet applications and services."
