Chief Medical Officer at South Nassau Communities Hospital Named One of Long Island’s Top 50 Women

May 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Nassau Communities Hospital is pleased to announce that Chief Medical Officer Dr. Linda Efferen was honored as one of Long Island’s Top 50 Women by Long Island Business News at a gala awards dinner at the Crest Hollow Country Club on May 20th.  Launched in 2000, the award recognizes the significant contributions of women professionals throughout Long Island.  Awardees are selected by a panel of business and community leaders based on the nominee’s professional accomplishments, impact on the local economy and leadership in the business world.  

“I am proud to join such a prestigious group,” notes Dr. Efferen.  “It’s wonderful for women to be recognized and valued for their unique accomplishments.”  As chief medical officer, Dr. Efferen is responsible for facilitating medical staff interactions with hospital administration and the governing board and for assuring the effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the mission of South Nassau.  She also oversees the implementation of care management programs and monitors the effectiveness of management practices and productivity indicators.

Prior to her appointment at South Nassau, Dr. Efferen served as the associate chair of the department of medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center for more than eight years.  Prior to that she served as chief/division of pulmonary and critical care medicine at SUNY-Health Science Center in Brooklyn.  She held a number of other positions during her tenure at SUNY-Health Science Center.

Dr. Efferen is board certified in hospice and palliative medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine and internal medicine.  She has been listed in the Consumers Research Council of America’s Guide to America’s Top Physicians, Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors: New York Metro Area (for seven years), Best Doctors’ Best Doctors in America and has received a host of awards/honors.  She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the New York Academy of Science, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Critical Care Physicians, American College of Medical Quality, American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
