With the assistance of his nephew, Percy embarks on a trek to Mississippi, whose cotton fields served as the backdrop for the last time he and his brother ever laid eyes on one another. Upon arriving in the “New South,” Percy is shocked to discover all the cultural and political changes that have taken place over the previous half century, and he’s ultimately heartened to learn that the forces that led to his estrangement from his kin no longer wield the same divisive power they once did.
