SANTA ROSA, Calif.– Buff, Inc. is overjoyed to announce that the company’s sponsored athlete Jordan Romero has become the youngest person to summit Mount Everest.
Romero departed for Kathmandu on April 5 and scaled the 29, 035-foot peak on Saturday May 22, 2010. “Team Jordan” – composed of Romero’s father, his father’s girlfriend, and three Sherpa guides helped the 13-year-old ascend the technically more difficult northern side of Everest. The southern approach from Nepal requires climbers to be at least 16.
Communicating via satellite phone from a Base Camp about 8,000 feet below Everest’s summit, Romero called his achievement a feeling unlike any other and hoped his record would help inspire children around the world.
The Big Bear Lake, Calif. native has only one peak remaining on his list to climb the world’s seven highest summits. Romero plans to climb Mount Vinson Massif on Antarctica in the winter of 2010.
“Buff, Inc. could not be more proud to support Jordan’s unbelievable ascent,” says Shirley Choi Brunetti, general manager and vice president, Buff, Inc. United States. “Jordan’s influence on young adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts will be immense. He is a true groundbreaker for his generation and we look forward to supporting his next objectives.”
During the Everest ascent Romero wore the UV Buff, which protects against 95-percent of damaging UV rays and can be worn over 12 different ways to accommodate different temperatures and offer a custom fit. The UV Buff is made from CoolMax Extreme fabric to provide superior moisture wicking and dry comfort properties, as well as helping to reduce skin temperature and maintain hydration.
All Buff models, except for the Wool Buff, incorporate Polygiene technology for active odor and sweat control by releasing non-toxic silver ions to break down odor-causing bacteria.
