May 26, 2010 - PRLog -- The IJIS Institute, a nonprofit organization established by a shared private-public vision to improve mission-critical information sharing in justice, public safety, and homeland security, announces that after seven years of distinguished service as the executive director of the IJIS Institute, Mr. Paul Wormeli will be retiring from the position in January 2011. The Board of Directors and the staff of the IJIS Institute wish to recognize Mr. Wormeli for his outstanding service and acknowledge his accomplishments to furthering the mission and vision of the IJIS Institute, as well as contributing to true and valuable progress in the field of justice and public safety information sharing.

Paul Wormeli was appointed as the executive director of the IJIS Institute in 2003. The current IJIS Institute President, Mike Lyons noted that, “In addition to being the executive director of the Institute, Paul Wormeli is one of the nation’s premier thought leaders in the field of information sharing in criminal justice, public safety, and homeland security. His many years of experience and service have fueled his passion for the topic and the great potential it holds for America’s practitioners and communities.”

Mr. Wormeli has had a long career in the field of law enforcement and justice technology, including several years of service as the presidentially-appointed deputy administrator for administration in the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration of the U.S. Department of Justice. He has been active in the development of software products, has managed system implementation for dozens of agencies throughout the world, and has managed national programs in support of law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Mr. Wormeli was also the first chairman of the Integrated Justice Information Systems Industry Working Group (IWG), a consortium of over 100 companies formed in 1999 at the request of the U.S. Department of Justice to help facilitate the implementation of integrated justice information systems throughout the nation. In this capacity, he facilitated the founding and organization of the IJIS Institute into which the IWG was eventually merged.

Mr. Wormeli’s long-standing contributions to the IJIS Institute will continue after his retirement as he will serve in the role of director emeritus. As a senior statesman of the Institute, Mr. Wormeli will continue as an advocate for the Institute and its mission while serving as an individual contributor at the pleasure of the executive director.

In support of Mr. Wormeli ‘s plans, and in the interest of continuing the Institute’s leadership role, the IJIS Institute’s Board of Directors will begin a national search for an executive director beginning June 2010. Interested applicants may submit their resume and letter of interest to: Mr. David Fredenburgh, Director of Finance and Administration, IJIS Institute, 44983 Knoll Square, Ashburn VA, 20147, david.fredenburgh@ijis.org.
