When students are using technology as a tool or a support for communicating with others, they are in an active role rather than the passive role of recipient of information transmitted by a teacher, textbook, or broadcast. The students are actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information. Technology use allows many more students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in teacher-led lessons.
When it comes to budding professionals, technology turns out to be an arena of immense interest and enthusiasm. This was absolutely true in the case of students of Manipal University. The students of IT Department in Manipal University organized their annual technology Event “Technologic 2010”, an event inspired by technology which had 7 universities across UAE participating in the events held at the venue. Dr. S K Pande from Manipal University delivered the introduction welcome speech and introduced the keynote speaker and other distinguished guests. Mr. George J Jason, representing Comguard, an exclusive distributor of EC Council (International Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants) and an expert in the field of information security, was invited to address the students and deliver a key note speech on “Offensive Defense”. The session completely revolved around the most common forms of security threats and methods to defend them from causing dreadful consequences. Mr. Jason emphasized the need for security awareness among young professionals in order to protect their data assets and private space from intruders and malicious programs.  Students were advised to be security trained as most of the defense mechanisms stand no good unless the end user is aware of the possibilities and ways of them being affected in cyber space. Mr. Jason answered to the queries of students regarding career options in the field of information security. Mr. Jason also posed the statistics of job opportunities that are available for information security professionals in corporate houses and government agencies like military organizations and digital investigation departments. The representatives of Comguard also conducted an exciting quiz on Information security and distributed gift hampers for the winners. The whole day’s event was closed with an exciting workshop on “ETHICAL HACKING” which was conducted by a security expert and certified ethical hacker of Comguard, the exclusive representative of EC Council.
