Our guests this week are Ben Carnes, from the Choctaw Nation, a long time activist, prisoner’s rights advocate, and a Sun Dance Chief and Don Coyhis, a member of the Mohican Nation, Founder of White Bison and the Wellbriety Movement and winner of the Purpose Prize,.
Many of our people both on and off reservations feel abandoned and ignored by our government. This isn’t a few unseemly people complaining and whining about not getting enough in their paycheck, but whole nations that are crying out for acknowledgment and aid. Third world circumstances are prevalent on more than a few of our reserves and where is the government? FEMA? Anyone? What is being done for those of our race who are in need? Ben will be addressing the myriad of issues that are plaguing our Native American Nations as a whole, from being ignored by the government when tragedy strikes one of our communities to the unfair treatment of our prisoners in the correctional system. Finally we will be discussing where we, as a people, go from here.
Don Coyhis will be discussing his life as a healer for our people, in Don’s many years of focus on bringing wellness to people on and off reservations. His dedication to developing culturally relevant treatment, prevention, and recovery materials to support the Wellbriety Movement are both well documented and extensive. He has implemented the Healing Forest program in urban and reservation communities that has brought change to many communities such as: the
Passamaquoddy Nation in Maine and the Shoshone Nation at Fort Hall, Idaho. These two year
systemic community change processes are based upon traditional teachings of the Elders,
If you or someone you know need to get the real deal or need help, this is the show to listen to! Real stories, real insights, real help!
