DTLR and Chicago Bears’ Lance Briggs will host the DTLR Football Clinic on Saturday, June 19, beginning at 9 a.m. The camp will be held at Eckersall Stadium (2423 82nd Street). This free one-day football camp offers comprehensive football drills for 300 student-athletes entering grades 8 – 12 during the 2010 – 2011 school year. The camp also features a complimentary lunch for participating student-athletes, fun morning warm-up for parents and a recruiting seminar for parents and student- athletes. This is the first time DTLR has held this free clinic in Chicago.
“DTLR realizes sports is often time the dreams of many urban youth,” said DTLR Community Outreach Manager Sherri Goodall. “We want to help them reach their goals; so, we have partnered with several outstanding football players and high school coaches in Chicago to help them increase their skills on the field. It only makes sense to bring sports, professional athletes and DTLR’s community efforts together in a way that benefits everyone involved.”
Camp participants will perform agility drills, offensive and defensive fundamentals broken down by position and seven-on-seven passing drills. After lunch, parents and students will receive an overview of the college recruiting process by a representative from National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) and have an opportunity to engage Briggs and his NFL friends during a question and answer session. “This camp is designed to develop serious student-athletes into great players,” says Briggs. “It offers students a unique hands-on training experience that will expose them to the same techniques and drills I used in college and that I continue to use today in the NFL, but most importantly the camp provides students and parents with information on what is required academically for them to succeed past high school; they are students before they are athletes.”
Adds Goodall: "DTLR partnered with Lance because he is committed to the community. He understood the importance of making this a free camp, especially during these hard economic times. He was willing to put in a lot of work and bring other players to the event who have the same passion and commitment as DTLR to giving back to the community and making sure these student-athletes have quality interaction and walk away better players and students.”
Parents are strongly encouraged to pre-register their child for the camp as there are only 300 spaces available. Interested student-athletes can also pre - register online at http://www.active.com/
Online registration is currently open. Onsite registration is available and begins at 8 a.m. the day of the camp.
