Coastal Psychiatric Medical Associates is pleased to announce the recent addition of Mark Spurlock, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, to their practice located in Del Mar and Pacific Beach, California. Spurlock works with both children and adults. His area of specialty is anger management, men’s issues, counseling children and adolescents, ADHD as well as Christian Counseling.
Spurlock’s approach to therapy is one of compassion and deep understanding. In therapy, he takes an existential approach, often able to learn from each client’s experience, as well as provide insight to aid in the development of self-awareness and emotional healing. According to Spurlock, “we all have the capacity to change unhealthy patterns and thrive in healthy and meaningful relationships.”

Spurlock has been a probation department-approved domestic violence group leader for over 10 years. He has treated literally thousands of men and women in regards to relationship violence and anger management. He has developed a four key essential skills quadrant approach to anger management. In 2005, he was elected to the Executive Board of the San Diego Domestic Violence Council. He also founded the Substance Abuse Committee in this Council and was instrumental in designing and developing the combined substance abuse and domestic violence treatment programs currently in use around San Diego County.
Coastal Psychiatric Medical Associates will be offering the first anger management group series beginning Monday, June 28, 2010. This is an 8-week series of group sessions that will be offered in the Del Mar office. The cost of the group is $240.00 for two months of group therapy for anger management.
