MAY24, 2010: EADS Test Engineering Services, a unit of EADS Defence & Security has been awarded a £300,000 contract to supply innovative testing software equipment to support operations on the frontline to the MoD’s Defence Support Group (DSG).
The SigBase and newWaveX software, the first of its kind in the world, was developed in the UK and US by experts at EADS Defence & Security to allow for the generation of test programs for a wide variety of equipment. The technology is unique in that it helps develop test programs independently from hardware, which enables maintenance crews to use the same software, even when the hardware becomes obsolete. It also reduces depot repair and maintenance costs.
Now installed in a fleet of ten automatic testing equipments, the software will play a vital part in helping the DSG provide test and repair facilities for UK defence forces, ensuring that battle-winning equipment is kept fully operational.
Penri Jones, General Manager of EADS Test Engineering Services (UK) explained that the three-year contract marks the biggest deployment of the software to date. “The use of SigBase and newWaveX will further enhance the service provided to the front line, by helping DSG to streamline repair and maintenance processes, and to improve operational flexibility at reduced cost,” he said.
Both applications are compliant with the IEEE 1641 standard - an international standard for test equipment that was developed with the active participation of EADS Test Engineering Services in the UK.
Further implementation of IEEE 1641 is expected within the global Defence and Aerospace industry, improving obsolescence reduction to increase efficiency and decrease costs. EADS Defence & Security supports implementation and use of the standard, offering training and a comprehensive set of tools.
