BROOKLYN, NY MAY 17, 2010 – Dollar Van Demos announced today that it will present DOLLAR VAN DEMOS LIVE! on June 10, 2010 in Brooklyn as part of Internet Week New York (IWNY).
Rapidly emerging as one of the leading global gatherings of Internet innovators, Internet Week New York, now in its third year, is expected to draw more than 20,000 people to more than 100 events across New York City from June 7 - 14.
Internet Week New York will kick off with an official proclamation from New York City Mayor
Michael Bloomberg on June 7th and culminate with The 14th Annual Webby Awards, a star-studded gala honoring the Internet's best and brightest at Cipriani Wall Street on June 14th. In between, conferences, networking events, meetups, screenings, and even sports competitions will unfold across the city.
In a major expansion for the festival, many of this year's events will take place at the first-ever Internet Week New York Headquarters at Chelsea's Metropolitan Pavilion, including the Internet Week Opening Night Party, the Provoke Summit hosted by presenting sponsor Yahoo!, IAB's Innovation Days, and panels, exhibits, and parties hosted by official sponsors HP, IAC, Microsoft Expression Studio, and Pepsico.
Included in the official events is DOLLAR VAN DEMOS LIVE! featuring a collection of the best undiscovered hip hop and reggae performers. The occasion marks the return of Dollar Van Demos to IWNY after their successful debut last year. The following is a list of performers who will appear:
Tef Poe
Tef Poe (short for Teflon Poetix) is an American rapper from St. Louis, Missouri. He has perfomed alongside as well as opened for: Common, De La Soul, Fabolous, Talib Kweli, MF Doom, and Lupe Fiasco. Through his uncompromising poetic rhymes and lyrical delivery, emcee Tef Poe has made his presence known on large hip hop sites such as ThisIs50, Global Grind, the Smoking Section, The River Front Times and many more. By no means does Tef Poe have any intentions of divorcing his first lady, hip hop. His commitment and music acumen has made him a proven contender.
Likwuid
A hip hop artist, entrepreneur, and activist, Faybeo’n LaShanna Aja Mickens, mostly known by friends and fellow music makers as “Likwuid”or “Likwuid Stylez”, has made a commitment to use her gift of song and supreme lyricism, to change the negative portrayal of women in the entertainment industry. Originally from South Carolina, she holds the distinction of becoming the 2nd woman to win NYC’s legendary EOW Emcee Challenge, and her notoriety as a Jump-Off TV Battle Winner propelled her career to the next level in the underground NYC hip hop circuit, then to nationwide buzz. Likwuid has collectively performed and recorded songs with artists such as Lyfe Jennings, Talib Kweli, Dr. Dre's
songstress TruthHurts, Jean Grae, Jahiem, 2Hungry Bros, DJ Webstar, and Bow Wow.
O.I.S.D
Five members make up the O.I.S.D. (aka Operation Industry Shut Down) clique, all from different areas of New York City. J. Monopoly (a native of Hollis Queens) is the founder of the group along with co-founder Eye Q (Bed-Stuy Brooklyn), and they are joined by Showtyme (Queensbridge)
Fresh Daily, amongst others, earning critical acclaim amongst peers and critics alike. With the appropriately titled debut LP Leaders Of The True School and the upcoming School's Out EP, O.I.S.D. are currently on a quest to revolutionize the sound and aura of hip-hop music/culture.
Leeia Music
The artist Leeia Music is a vocalist, songwriter and television host with a face to remember and a voice that’s hard to forget: a unique combination of R&B and the soulful beats of reggae. Her interest in music developed at an early age and flourished while developing her craft in college. The Queens native also volunteers with “Hearts and Voices," an organization that brings live music to hospitalized HIV/AIDS patients.
Nicolette
Harlem femcee Nicolette made headlines when she was signed at the age of fifteen to a record deal by hip hop legend LL Cool J. Hailed as the hottest female rapper out of Harlem, the young but sassy, positive and fun artist entertains all types of audiences with her danceable tracks and electrifying stage presence.
One additional performer will be announced in the coming weeks (stay tuned to our
