It looks like serious teenage crime could be on the increase, however some arrests are quite bizarre.
When several jewellry stores were broken into at Britain's Westfield shopping centre, a 15 year old teenager, along with 2 others, were arrested, over a million-pound ($1.5-million)
The suspects, aged 18, 17, and 15 were charged with targeting De Beers and Tiffany & Co in a smash-and-grab raid on the retail mecca in Shepherd's Bush, west London - Europe's largest inner-city shopping centre.
Some reports say the robbers may have netted a cache of 2.5 milion pound. In the early hours of the morning it is believed a masked gang of up to 10, wearing balaclavas, used sledgehammers to crash down a fire door before breaking shop windows. They stole necklaces rings and bracelets, many studded with diamonds.
The police were alerted by electronic alarms, A high speed chase ensued across west London, but the gang escaped.
Three teenagers were arrested at an address in Camden, north London, after detectives had viewed a great number of CCTV images from cameras both in the complex and the surrounding area.
Travis Neeley, a 19 year old was placed under arrest in Lake City, Fla., for trying to rob a car. When the owner caught the boy red-handed, he used the remote control to lock Neeley inside. Neeley attempted a number of times to unlock a door and exit, but each time the car owner relocked it before Neeley could get out. Finally Neely gave up and waited for the police.
In Colorado a teenager, Aaron Henson, was in custody for allegedly returning a DVD late to the town library. The Judge was fired for ordering the arrest of Henson, in a ‘don’t go past the library, go to jail’ incident.
An investigation by the council turned up 71 outstanding warrants that had been issued. “For people that probably don’t know they had warrants out on them,” said Littleton Mayor Doug Clark. The council said they had lost confidence in the judge, even though he had served on the local bench for 30 years.
The judge says everyone should treat library materials with a lot more respect. He does not regret giving out the warrant because the city loses thousands of dollars a year in unreturned library materials.
Henson had returned the late DVD, prior to the court summons being issued.
Judge Kimmel will now return to private practice.
“Kimmel is a good man”, Henson said. He was sorry the Judge had lost his job.
