Los Angeles Greek Film Festival To Present Phedon Papamichael With 2010 Career Achievement Award

Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF) will honor veteran cinematographer Phedon Papamichael with the Festival's Orpheus Award for Career Achievement presented by director Alexander Payne (SIDEWAYS) on Sunday, June 13th at the Egyptian Theatre. The Red Carpet evening will celebrate the passion of Phedon’s professional achievements in the fields of Directing, Cinematography and his continued support of the entertainment arts.

Papamichael has been the cinematographer on an impressive list of entertainment media ranging from the TV mini-series for Wild Palms to the cinematic features PHENOMENON, PATCH ADAMS, THE MILLION DOLLAR HOTEL, MOONLIGHT MILE, SIDEWAYS, THE WEATHER MAN, WALK THE LINE, THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS, 3:10 TO YUMA, the upcoming KNIGHT AND DAY with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and is currently in production on THE DESCENDANTS with George Clooney.

"Phedon’s creativity is inexhaustible. We are thrilled to have Phedon as this year's recipient of the Career Achievement Orpheus Award. It is a well deserved honor and a tribute to his outstanding contribution to the world of cinema as a whole," added Angeliki Giannakopoulos, Festival Co-Founder.

Phedon’s fourth directorial bow ARCADIA LOST, a film which follows the spiritual journey of two teenagers in the aftermath of a devastating car accident in the hidden terrain of Greece, will be featured in the Festival and will screen on Saturday, June 12th followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and cast.

In its fourth year, Los Angeles Greek Film Festival has honored Greek filmmakers, actors and those of Greek decent who have not only made extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry, but also have become icons and role models in their chosen discipline. Past honorees include Olympia Dukakis, Gena Rowlands and Penelope Spheeris.

The Career Achievement honor along with Orpheus Awards for Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Short Film, Audience Choice and Special Achievement in Film will take place on June 13th following the US premiere of PLATO'S ACADEMY (Akadimia Platonos).

About the Orpheus Award:
Named for the legendary Greek poet and “father of songs,” the Orpheus Award is the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival’s annual prize intended to honor the best in Greek and Greek inspired cinema. Since the Festival’s inception in 2007 the awards night has become an integral event serving to highlight the art and artists who are changing the way we think about film. The award itself was designed and sculpted by Greek artist Miltos Papastergiou. Papastergiou, who studied under Yannis Pappas, attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris and has regularly presented his work in both Athens and Larissa.
