Visual Merchandising Company RedBorder provides a window of opportunity for 13 – 19 year olds

RedBorder’s launch of the accredited Passion for … Fashion course is designed to revolutionise the perception of Visual Merchandising through education and experience.

May 23, 2010 - PRLog -- RedBorder’s Founder and Visual Merchandiser, Deborah Millington knows all about the power, professionalism and expertise required to have a successful career in the Fashion and Retail Industry as a Visual Merchandiser. It was a lack of finding inspirational case studies which inspired her to launch and expand her RedBorder creative education course - Passion for … Fashion, across all the UK.

After over 4 years in business, RedBorder’s launch of the accredited Passion for … Fashion course is designed to revolutionise the perception of Visual Merchandising through education and experience.  Traditionally, seen as just a job in a shop, where you dress mannequins or hang clothes on a rail, RedBorder aim to shake up the perception and educate young people into seeing Visual Merchandising as a viable career option.

Having delivered Passion for … Fashion to Summer Universities across London for the past 3 years, the course’s significance has not gone un-noticed.  In January 2010, Stratford City Education Projects in partnership with Westfield Stratford City Development commissioned RedBorder to deliver a 2 week project.  The project supported the development of Year 9 students from Sarah Bonnell School whom participated in a retail business diploma ‘taster’, aimed at promoting the retail career opportunities which will be available from September 2010.

Passion for … Fashion opens up the opportunity for students to realise that Visual Merchandising is a role which requires a great amount of intelligence, creativity and ingenuity.  A Visual Merchandisers requires flair to tell stories, take consumers on a journey and encourage them to purchase the product with the use of visual tools and accessories. It also aims to show retail in a different light to which it has been perceived for so many years.

Millington says, ‘For me Visual Merchandising can be an extremely profitable and exciting career option.  It can often involve travelling; offer a lucrative salary and a wide breadth of various opportunities’.

Millington continues:
‘When I entered this sector there was very little information about how to get into this industry. If there was a course like this available to me, which gave me a great insight into this sector and provided me with an opportunity to achieve a qualification, I would have snapped it up in a flash.  The course offers everything from how to enter this sector to creating plans and displays.’

RedBorder is regularly being commissioned and incorporated by Local Authorities as part of their core educational development programme.  The course is targeted at 13– 19 year olds, providing an in-depth understanding of the breadth of opportunities available in this role as well as offering hands on experience of planning, preparing and implementing an installation in a retail environment.

RedBorder also teamed up with Oxfam to utilise and deliver eye-catching and creative window and store displays.
