May 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Even a few years back the word panic attack was something people could not identify with so easily. But as pressure of work increases, as people are trying badly to make all ends meet at the right point of time, this phrase is no more unheard of. We should pay some attention to the symptoms of such attacks and try in our own small spheres to remain aware of such undesired mishaps.

Though the overlapping nature of these symptoms make the detection a tough job for any ordinary person, still an overview of such symptoms is required and is important at the same time. The DSM-IV-TR, Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders grouped the symptoms under four or even more symptoms for a simpler understanding.

Palpitation

It is one of the most significant symptoms observed in individuals. This is mainly due to elevated heart beat rates, and the thumping of the heart really hard.

Perspiration

We find the individual sweating profusely, the intense sweating at times is perceived as a reason of tension.

Trembling

The cluttering of hands and feet terribly can be noticed among the victims. It appears as if they are literally scared of some kind of situation and can't cope well with it.

Breath shortness

There is a terrible feeling of strangulation and suffocation, as if a deliberate lack of air sensation is felt by the individual as major panic attack symptoms.

Nausea

The symptoms include a feeling of dizziness. One feels extremely light when it comes to his or her head, something very unstable which tends to make the person feel a vomiting tendency.

Unreality and depersonalization

Mental images or illusions are certain things one feels, a kind of detachment from near and dear ones are also felt hugely. This is a cause which drives the person quite crazy. A terrible feeling of ending one's life also comes in the mind of such individuals, a complete sense of hopelessness.

Numbness and tingling sensation

The sensation that nothing in the body exists, not getting to feel the body parts properly, something going completely inert is also found in such victims.

All the above panic attack symptoms are due to the fact that blood from the brain rushes to other parts of the body to support it and hence the brain gets starved due to which illusions and images occur. The above symptoms are some of the elaborate features of panic attacks.
