Special Olympics Louisiana announces ScholarWise Scholarship winner

May 22, 2010 - PRLog -- When Sabrina Duhe of Ponchatoula bought her ScholarWise ticket in February she never really expected to win the $120,000 Scholarship Grand Prize.

"I've never won anything before in my life", she said, "Of course, with two children in private school and headed for college, I thought it would be nice to win; however, support of Special Olympics was the real motivation."

You see, Sabrina has a sister in Utah who has an intellectual disability and participates in Special Olympics there as a bowler.  You might say that this is really a win-win for Sabrina and her family.

The $120,000 ScholarWise Scholarship prize can be used for education-related expenses, including private school, college, and graduate school tuition, as well as repayment of student loans.  The Duhe family will be able to use the funds this year for both students who are currently enrolled in private school and have plans to attend college.

"On behalf of all of the Special Athletes who are served by Special Olympics Louisiana, we want to thank everyone who  purchased tickets for this exciting giveaway", said Pat Carpenter Bourgeois,  CEO of Special Olympics Louisiana.  " If you did not participate in this year's giveaway, perhaps you will next year, as we are committed to making this an annual event."  She goes on to say that "without public support, Special Olympics Louisiana would not be able to provide the programs that help those who are mentally challenged develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and share friendship with the community."

This was the first-of-its kind fundraiser and beneficiary, Special Olympics Louisiana will be conducting the ScholarWise Scholarship Giveaway annually.  "We have already begun planning next year's giveaway.", said Fred Reggie, CEO and Founder of ScholarWise, "With education expenses escalating with no end in sight, this scholarship raffle program offers the winner the great opportunity to have those expenses paid while, at the same time, supporting the mission of a great organization."

Participants pay one hundred twenty-five dollars for a chance to win a unique $120,000 scholarship.  This non-traditional scholarship can be used for any education-related expenses including, but not limited to, tuition for private school as well as college, room and board, books, and fees as well as travel expenses associated with educational programs.  The scholarship can even be used to repay student loans.  All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit Special Olympics Louisiana.
