FLORENCE – On Thursday, May 6th, Columbia Cottage Assisted Living held the Shoals Area Nurse of the Year Event. Jerry Kimbrough from Shoals Hospital, was named the Nurse of the Year for 2010 and presented with a $500 award and a plaque commemorating his achievements as a nurse. Jerry was nominated by his mentor who truly believes his leadership, dedication and passion deserve to be recognized with this award.
“Jerry Kimbrough has solid integrity and sterling qualities,” said Mary Jane Carter who nominated Jerry. “I have heard these words spoken and written many times from his patients ‘I felt safe in his care’; ‘he is the best nurse’; ‘he listens’; I cannot think of a more cherished, heartwarming word than ‘safe’, what a tribute to any nurse!” Jerry excelled as a student and was elected class president in 2005. In 2005, he was also presented with the prestigious James B. Allen award and the Nursing Club award from the School of Nursing.
Jerry was chosen by a committee of community leaders including Charlotte Cramer, CRNP, Assistant Professor of Nursing at UNA; Shannon Ross, RN, Clinical Account Executive at MidSouth Home Health; Edith Palmer, LPN, Columbia Cottage Resident; Melinda Crawford, Information Director at Columbia Cottage; and Selena Jackson, LPN, Managing Director at Columbia Cottage.
“Nurses are such a powerful force in our community, and we are proud to be able to honor them with this award,” said Selena Jackson, LPN, Managing Director of Columbia Cottage.
