May 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Lexington Healing Arts Academy (LHAA) announces the addition of a new Personal Fitness Training program to add to their established accredited programs in Massage Therapy and Yoga Teacher Training.  This 840 hour program is designed to educate and prepare students to be successful personal trainers, in this growing and competitive field. Anatomy and Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, and Exercise and Nutrition are the foundation science courses in the program.  The professional development includes marketing, sales, leadership, business skills, and lifestyle fitness coaching. The course includes a 120 hour externship where students actually work with clients and begin developing their professional career under the supervision of faculty.

Upon completion of the program graduates will have the knowledge to assess fitness needs for a wide range of populations and design appropriate exercise and wellness plans for each.  They will also learn how to modify training techniques to adapt to any medical or physical contraindications.

The impetus to begin the Personal Training program is the growing field of health and wellness career opportunities.  Bill Booker, Executive Director of the Lexington Healing Arts Academy states “The addition of the Personal Fitness Training program is a further expansion into the wellness field.  As an institution we believe exercise and diet, along with massage and yoga are proactive steps to a healthy lifestyle.  Staying healthy is the goal.  We are excited to be bringing professional, safe, and effective personal fitness training to central Kentucky and hopefully have an impact on the health of the people of Kentucky.”

As occupational forecasts indicate employment opportunities for fitness workers are expected to increase 29 percent over the 2008 -2018 decade.  A recent LHAA survey of the local market reflected similar findings.  The local fitness employers responded positively that there is a need for Personal Fitness Trainers educated specifically with the knowledge and experience required to be an effective and safe trainer, both nationally and locally.  All also voiced their preference to hire someone with an education and a certificate rather than someone with just certification.

The first class begins October 2010, followed by a March 2011 class.  The program takes about 52 weeks to complete.

LHAA is an established Massage Therapy and Yoga Teacher Training School accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and a Yoga Alliance (YA) registered school.  The campus is also home to a Massage Clinic, open seven days a week, and a Yoga Center offering a complete schedule of classes and workshops.
