The UK’s leading online discount and voucher code website asked 1,264 people across the UK about their shopping habits, including how many shops they buy from and if they are honest about which stores they make their purchases from.
The research, commissioned by http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, reveals that 21% of people lie about where they purchase their food from. Of those that are dishonest about where they shop, 32% admitted they claim to shop in ‘more expensive’ stores.
When asked about grocery shopping, 47% admitted to shopping in Tesco, compared to 39% who shop in Asda and 26% buy from Sainsbury’s. However, just less than 1 in 10 of these, 8%, tell their friends that they shop in Waitrose and 6% claim to buy from Marks and Spencer.
The poll found that 32% of women feel ‘embarrassed’
Of the men that were asked, 36% admit to doing most of their shopping online, a further 41% said they never tried clothes on before making their purchase.
26% of women admit that they only shop in stores where they can fit into their ideal size and 62% wouldn’t buy a garment before trying it on first.
Almost half, 48%, of the women asked claim to shopping in the same shops for all their clothing, with 18% saying they only shop in 3-5 stores. When asked ‘Why do you not try new shops?’ 22% admitted it was ‘habit’ while 13% agreed it was because they ‘don’t like the stock.’
The research by http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk shows that women are more likely to be dishonest about the price of their clothing than men, with 32% admitting that they ‘exaggerate on price’ when discussing their outfit, compared to just 4% of men.
Talking about the findings, Mark Pearson, founder of http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk has said,
“Showing off to friends about how much money you spend is something we are probably all guilty of. It doesn’t do any harm to not divulge the fact that your jeans may well have been half price in a sale, or that the leg of lamb was in the reduced fridge in Tesco.”
He continues,
“Buying things that traditionally cost a lot of money such as electrical goods can be drastically reduced by using sites such as http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, as there are so many codes available to help consumers get a better deal. The trick is to research products and search for deals before you commit to the purchase.”
