May 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Reserving a pool-side sun lounger is the best way to annoy fellow holidaymakers whilst on vacation, a new poll of 1,684 people by online travel agent www.sunshine.co.uk has found, with two thirds, 67%, claiming that is something that most frustrates them about other tourists whilst on holiday.

The study was commissioned after sunshine.co.uk received an e-mail from a holidaymaker asking for recommendations of remote island resorts, after being put off busier destinations by the bad habits of fellow travellers.

42% of the people that took part in the study said it was noisy holidaymakers that most frustrated them whilst on their vacation, whilst 31% agreed drunken tourists were likely to frustrate them whilst they were on holiday.

9% said hearing fellow holidaymakers arguing was a pet hate of theirs, whilst 3% admitted being put off by public displays of affection by other tourists. 12% of women asked said they didn't like seeing other women sunbathe topless; when asked why, more than half, 56%, said it was a 'potential distraction' for their partner.

When asked, "which of the following traits frustrate you about fellow holidaymakers whilst on vacation?" http://www.sunshine.co.uk received the following response;

1.    Reserving sun loungers - 67%
2.    Excessive noise - 42%
3.    Drunkenness - 31%
4.    Bad karaoke - 22%
5.    Cultural insensitivity - 19%
6.    Unsociable - 15%
7.    Arguing - 9%
8.    Stingy tippers - 5%
9.    Public displays of affection - 3%
10. Patriotic holidaywear - 1%

Chris Brown, co-founder of http://www.sunshine.co.uk, commented on the top ten most frustrating habits of fellow holidaymakers;

"When we received the e-mail from someone looking to escape fellow holidaymakers and head somewhere a little more remote, we wanted to see how common it was for holidaymakers to annoy one another. Not being able to get a sun lounger due to someone unrightfully reserving it is something all tourists have probably experienced abroad, so it wasn't a great shock to see it up there as the most annoying habit!"

He continued,

"What people have to remember is that fellow travellers are just out to enjoy their holiday and they shouldn't be too quick to judge or get annoyed. I'm sure there are certain things we all do that can irritate fellow holidaymakers to a certain extent, such as socks and sandal combos or bad attempts at speaking the native language. It's best to just let others get on with it and enjoy your holiday despite their habits!"
