May 18, 2010 - PRLog -- The Crucible’s gallery in Oakland’s historic Cathedral Building, at the triangle between Broadway and Telegraph Avenues, announces it’s newest exhibition.  “It’s Alive” celebrates kinetic and interactive art by selected Bay Area artists, illustrating their inventive visions and showcasing many of the skills taught at The Crucible.   From the small and subtle to the enormous and wacky, these amazing works of art are engineered to move and interact with the observer.

Nemo Gould served as guest juror for this very special exhibition, and will bring his most recent creation, Po’bot, to the Cathedral Gallery for the exhibition.  Gould's work has been featured frequently in national media and is shown in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and abroad. http://www.nemomatic.com/   “When I am working, I am always trying to make things that can produce a child like response from a jaded adult—it’s a matter of life and death!” says Gould.   This truly is an exhibition that will bring out the child in just about anyone, because the works are designed to be touched or interacted with by the observer.

An opening reception will be held Thursday, May 20th, 6-9PM.  Exhibiting artists, Crystal Allen, Robert Burnside, Patricia Chavez, Max Chen, Jonathan Foote, Adam Hathaway, Ken Herrick, Billy Hiebert, Tracy Jacobs, Greg Johnson, Chris Niemer, Robert Stone, Sudhu Tewari,  and Jeff Tritel will be there to share insights about creating works of art that swing, sway, blink, breathe, ring, react, paint, talk back and seemingly have a life of their own.

For ten years, The Crucible has provided the Bay Area with space and resources for unique learning and collaborative experiences, and has produced some of the most stunning theatrical events seen in the Bay Area. The Crucible promotes creative expression, reuse of materials, and innovative design while serving as an accessible and highly visible arts venue for the general public.  And now, they’re making art even more accessible to visitors and denizens of Oakland’s Uptown area.

As the revitalization of the Uptown area draws more and more people to explore new restaurants, shops and events in this neighborhood, The Crucible’s Cathedral Gallery provides a compelling and welcoming site for visitors and those working in downtown Oakland.   Great art is visible from the street and sidewalk through windows 24/7; the gallery is staffed Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 2PM, and 6-9PM on 1st Fridays, and by appointment.
